Please read these terms and conditions (“terms”) carefully before using this website. These terms (together with the documents referred to in it) tell you the conditions on which you may make use of our website mappinggm.org.uk (“website”).

Information about us and the website

The Website is operated and maintained by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (“Us”, “Our”, “We”). Our office is at Churchgate House, 56 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 6EU.

The Website provides maps of the Greater Manchester area (“Map”) with the ability to overlay additional layers of datasets (“Data”), creating interactive local and critical infrastructure mapping tools of the Greater Manchester area (together the “Service”). The Greater Manchester area is made up of 10 local authorities comprising Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.

Use of Ordnance Survey products

The maps on MappingGM utilise Ordnance Survey Premium data products. In relation to your viewing, use or interaction with Ordnance Survey Premium data, namely OS VectorMap Local, OS MasterMap Topography Layer, 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster and 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster, the provisions of the Ordnance Survey Public Sector End User Licence (which is available here) apply, rather than these terms and conditions. Please be aware that there are some important differences in the rights granted in these terms and conditions, and the rights granted in the Ordnance Survey Public Sector End User Licence.

The maps on MappingGM utilise Ordnance Survey Premium data products namely OS VectorMap Local, OS MasterMap Topography Layer, 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster and 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster which is Ordnance Survey © Crown copyright and database rights OS 100037229, and is subject to the following terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions

  1. You are granted a non-exclusive, royalty free revocable licence solely to view the licensed data for non-commercial purposes for the period during which we make it available;
  2. You are not permitted to copy, sub-license, distribute, sell or otherwise make available such data to third parties in any form; and
  3. Third party rights to enforce the terms of this licence shall be reserved to OS.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms, including specific terms relating to use of Ordnance Survey products at any time by amending this page.

Please check this page from time to time to take notice of any changes we made, as they are binding on you.

Changes to the service

We may update our Service and/or the Website from time to time, and may make changes or remove Data at any time. However, please note that any of the Data provided through our Service may be out of date at any given time, and we are under no obligation to update it.

We do not guarantee that the Service or the Website will be free from errors or omissions.

Accessing our service

Our Service is made available free of charge.

We do not guarantee that our Service or the Website (or any part thereof) will always be available or be uninterrupted. Access to our Service is permitted on a temporary basis. We may suspend, withdraw, discontinue or change all or any part of our Service without notice. We will not be liable to you if for any reason our Service (or part thereof) is unavailable at any time or for any period.

You are responsible for making all arrangements necessary for you to have access to our Service.

You are also responsible for ensuring that all persons who access our Service through your internet connection are aware of these Terms and other applicable terms and conditions, and that they comply with them.

Intellectual property rights

We are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in the Service and the Website. All right, title and interest in the Service and the Website will remain exclusively with us and/or our licensors.

The Map forming part of the Service is provided and may be used by you in accordance with the terms and conditions of the specific licence under which the Map is distributed, but is provided “as is” and expressly subject to the disclaimer appearing under “LIMITATION OF OUR LIABILITY”. Details of the relevant licence terms of the Maps are provided in the metadata.

We grant to you a non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence (without a right to sub-licence) to use the Data forming part of the Service for personal or commercial research purposes and in accordance with these Terms. For the avoidance of doubt, if you are a business, your use of the Data is strictly limited to internal business use only.

Except as expressly permitted in these Terms, You shall not, and shall not permit others to (i) modify, translate, create derivative copies of or copy the Data in whole or in part; (ii) distribute, sub-licence, assign, share, timeshare, sell, rent, lease, grant a security interest in, use for service bureau purposes, or otherwise transfer the Data or your right to use the Data; (iv) remove or modify any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices belonging to us or our licensors contained within the Data; or (v) use the Data in any manner not expressly authorised by this Agreement. You further acknowledge that you must not use the Data with any other services, products or other applications, including but not limited to navigation or route guidance services.

You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any Data you have printed off or downloaded from the Website in any way, and you must not use any images, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.

Our status (and that of any identified contributors) as the authors of the Service and the Website must always be acknowledged.

No reliance on service

The Service is provided for general research information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely (including but not limited to reliance for the purpose of making planning applications). You must obtain professional or specialist advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of the Service.

We make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the Service is accurate, complete or up-to-date. You should exercise judgment in your use of the Service.

We recommend that you perform your own checks and verifications of the Data at its original source to ensure its accuracy and completeness.

Your contract for use of the Service, which incorporates these Terms (“Contract”) will commence upon your visit to the Website and continue for the duration of your visit to the Website.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, or our fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by English law.

Applicable law

These Terms, its subject matter and its formation, are governed by English law. You and we both agree to that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction. However, if you are a resident of Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in Northern Ireland, and if you are resident of Scotland, you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.
